In these last chapters, Dicey seems to be making more friends. She and her family were slowly solving their problems.
After her mother’s death, Dicey makes herself feel better by buying gifts for the rest of her family. This strikes me as a very selfless act. Instead of buying things for herself, Dicey chose to buy things for others. I admire how she held herself together at the time. I would not be brave enough to hold my composure like that. Dicey has finally begun to feel that her grandmother’s house was her home. I had a had time becoming accustomed to my new home when I first moved here, too.
